Our 53 licensed places are divided into 3 groups.
Nursery which caters for up to 14 children from 4 months to 2 years of age.
Pre-Kindy which caters for 20 children for 2 to approximately 3.5 years of age.
Kindy which caters for 19 children from approximately 3.5 to school age.
Each room has a play based educational programme which is written by the Team Leader on a fortnightly basis. This programme is based on the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability (SACSA) Framework. This is the public education curriculum which runs from birth to year 12 in schools.
Each child who attends KPCCC has a personal file in which their achievements and learning at child care is recorded. Our main form of documenting children’s learning is through Learning Stories. A Learning Story includes a digital photo of the child participating in an activity at child care. The story gives a description of what the child did during the activity, who they may have interacted with and so on. The staff then analyse this information and document the current knowledge or skills the child has demonstrated in the activity. The staff use this information to establish goals and ideas for further extension of the child’s development. This further extension activity will be included in the educational program and evaluated on completion.
All rooms have a daily routine. The routine makes the day predictable for the children. It gives them a good understanding of what is expected of them during the day at child care. The predictability of the routine allows children to freely explore the environment in which they feel safe and comfortable.
Primary Care Giving is established for all children under 3.5 years. A child’s primary care giver is someone who has in depth knowledge of the child’s routine and care needs. In most circumstances the primary caregiver will perform care routines with the child such as nappy changes, toileting, and sleep routines. The PCG will observe the child’s development and make time to spend with the child throughout the day. As a parent this is the person see to gain feedback on your child’s day at child care.
